Construction / tuning:
This plane was build as per instructions of Multiplex.
Some great new features eg. the possibility to dismantle the elevator
wings, or the usage of the delivery box for the transport, or the access
of the plane through a door at the bottom of the fuselage... Innovative!
Well done Multiplex!
Nothing special to mention for building the plane. Just follow
From the beginning I mounted the larger props (8 x 5 ")supplied by the
multiplex motor set (the second choice is a smaller one with 7 x 4").
This little plane jumps out of your hands. Vertical is easy and quickly
you have reached the distance of clear visibility. All acrobatic figures
you can zoom through. Low passes, fast ascends, fast descends, 5
loops in a row, roles in vertical flights, .... no issues with the
Landing is also easy ! The Merlin became my holiday plane - it joint me
for skiing in the Austrian Alps in February and after the slopes closed
the RC Merlin soared through the -10 C air! Landing was a bit itchy, no,
not because of the speed, but the plane just disappeared in the fluffy
snow. Once I found it 2 meters further on from the point of touch down. I
was getting worried that I would have to wait until spring to come back
in order to reclaim my little Merlin!
Check out also the video on the side with some various fixings of the
camera on the plane!
Update August 2011:
By this time I build three of these little planes - one to be always in the
car and the other two are in Germany and Hungary!
Unfortunately I was shredded during rather risky flight maneuvers. By
chance none of the rc equipment was damaged, so I will be able to
re-use them for some other projects in the near future.
Two planes continue to survive and fly!
